Phoenix Academy celebrates 10 years

Congratulations to the latest graduates of our school of social housing - the Phoenix Academy!

In a special graduation ceremony we marked the 10th anniversary of the academy by honouring the past, celebrating the present and designing the future.

New graduates followed in the footsteps of a long line of 495 residents, staff and external learners who have earned Chartered Institute of Housing qualifications since Phoenix launched the academy in 2014.  

The academy not only trains Phoenix staff to gain nationally recognised qualifications, it also empowers residents to have an informed say through an in-depth education of how the housing sector operates.

Sir Steve Bullock, former Mayor of Lewisham, returned to the academy after awarding certificates at the first ever graduation event. He said: "The Phoenix Academy is one of the very best examples of how a housing association gives their residents the tools and knowledge needed to get involved and make a difference.”

Resident and Level 3 graduate, Nadine Wallen, echoed this sentiment, saying the academy gave residents the opportunity to learn the governing processes and regulations of housing and to map out their journey of progression and learning. She said: "I’m very excited at the heights I will reach and the differences I can make!”

Since the first Level 1 course was delivered 10 years ago, the Phoenix Academy has grown strength-to-strength and added Chartered Institute of Housing Level 2, 3 and 4 courses to its portfolio. The academy is now in the process of gaining accreditation to offer the Level 5 course.
